Aphex Twin would approve. Very abstract and choppy, all in a good way.

A bit repetitive but not bad themes. The instruments sounds fake and in wrong position if you want to emulate orchestra, also the separation between left and right is a bit unrealistic. The piano sounds very mechanical, maybe some dynamic changes might help.
After 01:58 there is huge clipping, try lowering the volume while mixing, put a good limiter.

The idea has potential but needs a bit more "polishing".

Ponsi responds:

Thanks so much for your response!

It's true, the bigger the orchestration, the more the sound seems weird with just the Sibelius 6 sound library. I was even forced to cut some themes and instruments because of that :/ Guess I'll have to continue my quest for better sounds and mixers.

Cheers!

Awesome work guys.
Composition is cool, soloing is cool, mixing is cool, a full 5/5.

Bad-Man-Incorporated responds:

Cool. Cheers, mang

In my headphones, the main lead/ melody is so loud that overpowers everything else. I would make the drums a bit "fatter", back off with the lead and pad a bit, make the guitar stereo (panning or split the frequencies or a ping-pong delay).
Not a bad composition.

LemonCrush responds:

Something, I noticed last time I uploaded stuff here...NG's player, I think, does something to the sound of certain frequencies. It might be an mp3 thing or something, but my stuff almost always sounds different on NG. Sometimes more noticable than others

Nice track. I like the quite abstract feel of the track. A bit repetitive but we can pretend it's a minimalist approach :)

LemonCrush responds:

It was meant to be minimalist/trance-ish

Not bad :) I like the chord changes and the choice of sounds.
In some places might need a better separation between instruments and maybe some volume automation or sidechain of long sounds (pads, long SFX, risers...) would bring out the rhythm better.

ScottJacob responds:

Great points sir. I appreciate the input!

Not a bad track, with some interesting things and very optimist feel but some things stand out in a not very good way.
In the intro, some of the sound effects are way too loud. Those should be ornaments on the track not main focus, stealing attention from rhythm and melody.
The main thing that bother me is the harmony clash between chords and the main melody. One of those should be adjusted to fit the other, I would say the chords because the melody is pretty good and fit with the bass very well.
The mixing is pretty ok and the choice of sounds is good. At 3:33 the cymbal is a bit loud and too thin to my taste.
Overall pretty good work.

ToxInjection responds:

Thanks for the review! It means a lot!

I'll keep that in mind for next time. I'm still getting used to doing really in depth mixing, so sometimes stuff ends up being louder than I think. I think I'm just worried some people won't hear the FX at all. Then again, my hearing's pretty shit.
Huh, I actually thoughts the chords fit rather well, but of course, to each his own. I have a feeling that my hearing getting really messed up is affecting the volume of some of the stuff I mix. Listening to stuff on full blast for years can do that. I'll really have to adjust for that next time I mix.

Finally new stuff from one of my favorites composers/ producers/ performers here on NG.
Nice track, good guitar tone and cool composition. Well played too.

No1r responds:

Ohh Mihai, my friend :) Thanks for your kind words, i Hope you stay well! I would have a lot of new stuff to publish and share with you and NG, but unfortunately i can't because of the agreement with the company i'm working for. Anyways its always a great pleasure to come back here. Those interested in hearing more can have a look to my home or soundcloud. I cant listen to your new stuff right now cause i'm on mobile device but tomorrow i'm going to check it all! Sincere hugs from Italy!

Well written, well arranged, played/ sequenced. Very nice harmony and feel.
Sometimes I feel that piano has a bit too much stuff, a bit too heavy, especially compared to the shy and soft vibraphone line.
Some key noises on bandoneon/accordion would bring more realism maybe.

SoundChris responds:

Hey sorohanro,

thanks a lot for your nice and useful review. I liked your jazz pieces and so i really appreciate your review! I have to say, that there are some things i probably would have changed if i would have taken more time. I started to do some oscar peterson homage - piano only. When it was finished the file got destroyed and just 4 tacts remained. The first tune just took me 1 day, but i was very frustrated because it has become a quite good piece in my oppinion. I was thinking about completely stopping the project and just beginning something new.

I am really glad you liked it. I understand what you said about the key noises - inserting them would improve the piece a lot, but unfortunately the accordion in logic is quite rudimentary and i think there is no possibility to create those noises :(

Thanks a lot for leaving your thoughts here. I wish you a happy and creative new year.
Best greetings to norway!

CHris

The choices of sounds/ tones and mixing is pretty well done but I have the impression that I stare at a Dr. Frankenstein's monster, meaning that I hear a lot of phrases and loops which have nothing to do with each other.

00:02 - You start with a "airy" reverbed synth playig C note. You would expect that would be followed by a chord that include the C note (C major, A minor, F major, F minor...etc), but instead it's followed by
00:20 - E minor chord (E, G, B) which make no harmonic sense, then, the e min chord progression (E minor, D major, C major) is mixed with a "acid synth" playing D-F-D-F.
00:39 - WTF!!! is a harsh sounding clashing there (E min chord, E-G-B, together with D-F, clash between E&D, E&F, G&F, then D major D-F#-A, clash between F&F# pretty much like sandpaper on my ears).

Then, the bass line doesn't follow the harmony (or harmony doesn't follow the bass) and the TB-ish synth pattern use no notes from harmony or bass line.... I'm too tired to go on, but I have to agree with the other review that says you need to listen and learn a bit more music.

However, your mixing skills seems to be pretty good.

Axel7 responds:

THAT, I like, thank you, I can work with this, THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU!!! QWKJBFVAJF!!! no I shit you not, see, that tells me SOMETHING
